Ava DuVernay and Autumn Riley

The birth of Ava DuVernay was on the 24th of August on the 24th of August, 1972 in Long Beach California. DuVernay was motivated to pursue her love of art by her aunt Denise as a young girl. Her aunt was a nurse and did night shifts to ensure that she could devote her days to literature, theatre, and art. DuVernay was a fan of the movie West Side Story, which she brought to her. DuVernay discovered by watching her mother's model of that art can be an activist vehicle. In the same way, her mother was conscious of her social status and influenced that she could express her thoughts through the arts. DuVernay was a child living with family members in Compton was a summer resident at Lowndes County Alabama in the house of her father's family. DuVernay's father recalled watching the historical Civil Rights march through the Edmund Pettus Bridge in the nearby city of Selma Alabama. The time she spent in Selma Alabama was later the inspiration to make a film about the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. as well as the Civil Rights Movement. In 1990 DuVernay was a graduate of Saint Joseph High School in Lakewood California. Following graduation, she attended her first year at the University of California Los Angeles where she earned certificates in English and African American studies. DuVernay was in college when she started to get interested in production for television journalism. She was an CBS News intern during the O.J. Simpson trial. DuVernay recalls being tasked to sit at the house of one of the members of the jury and examine their junk. She was disappointed by her journalistic duties and decided to change to the world of public relations. DuVernay found a job immediately after college as a publicist in the young age of a studio. Her own Public Relations company, The DuVernay Agency was established in 1999. Apart from PR, the agency developed several lifestyle websites including Urban Beauty Collective, Urban Thought Collective Urban Eye, HelloBeautiful.
